Miners are often dealt the wet, slippery, muddy, uneven and rocky ground card. There’s no consistency in weather or terrain and so with all the trust laying at your feet you better hope you’ve wrapped them in the right shoes. But when it comes to the choosing the correct shoes, size isn’t the only thing a miner should be concerned with. To save you wadding through the plethora of work safety boots on offer we’ve made something overwhelming as easy as pie! Here’s our top five selected lace-ups for Aussie miners:

Rossi - Stratus Safety Boots

With a specially designed deeper TPU tread wall the Stratus provides an inner sole with superior comfort even on the longest days. Unlike the other contenders, these wheat nubuck leathers include designs with above ankle lace-up and quick release side zip options. While the wider fit and greater contact area allows for improved stability and grip even on the most slippery of surfaces. Additional enhancements include the Rossi’s Flexi-Dome footbed, metatarsal flex pads and Technogel comfort pads, which absorb and distribute pressure equally over the foot area, thus protecting muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments. This is certainly the luxury boat of safety footwear.

Rift - Mining Boot

After trekking the mountainous regions of Nepal in 2006 founder Jason Anderson used his lessons learnt to create the ultimate state-of-art safety shoe complete with steel cap toe or composite steel cap toe options. Made in 100% waterproof Nubuck leather, the Eva rubber Vibram sole creates a flexi-fit while the polyurethane makes it extremely strong, hard-wearing, and lighter than rubber. Similarly to the Rossi, the Rift is the hardy boot that repels fuels, oils, urine and other common chemicals.

Steel Blue Boots - Argyle-Met

Cowhide water-resistant full-grain waxy leather is just the beginning of one reliable shoe. Unlike the other contenders its Trisole™ Comfort Technology Soling System: a patented three density soling system really puts the others to shame offering a high level of comfort, shock absorbency and energy return. But the Baltico lining is where it really excels, as a soft and non-abrasive hydrophobic material it rids perspiration from the foot so the skin can remain cool and dry. As if that wasn’t enough, Poron energy absorbing pads relieve the foot’s pressure points providing a superior comfort!

Oliver – All Terrain Footwear

If you’re looking for a shoe with a highly protective toe-cap, Oliver's All Terrain footwear offers the new Hi-Impact Alloy Type 1, which is 40 per cent lighter than a conventional steel toecap. Similar to the Rossi, the Oliver comes fit with a flexi polyurethane midsole and Dual Density All Terrain TPU so expect lightweight shock absorption as well as a high density TPU. For a medium range shoe with all the standard features including superior grip and abrasion resistance the Oliver AT is the preferred shoe.

Blundstone - Xtreme safety Range

For tough styling and brilliant underfoot comfort, Blundstone’s Xtreme Safety range features a TPU kick-guard sole further enhancing the durability of the toe area of the boot. The standard water-resistant, upper and shock absorbing polyurethane midsole are seriously outweighed by the thermal regulating Bamboo lining offering deodorising and anti-bacterial features to ensure the health and comfort of the miner. The new rubber outsole increases cut and slip resistance and makes it impervious to hydrolysis and microbial attack. Similar to the Steel Blue Boots, Poron technology provides extra cushioning and redirection of shock.
