Western Australia will have its first uranium mine operating within two years with Toro Energy to open a site at Wiluna at a cost of $269 million.

Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke gave final approval for the project to go ahead at the beginning of this month, after it had already received approval from the WA State Government some time ago

MineTalk is today throwing its support behind the fun-loving WA miners who were fired for their seemingly-harmless underground performance of the Harlem Shake.

As has been widely reported, the 15 miners - some of whom were just watching the stunt and not taking part in it - were fired by management of Barminco’s Agnew Mine after they uploaded a video of themselves doing Baauer’s hit dance craze on site

The co-ordinator of the Sunshine Coast Mining and Gas Association has called on local FIFO workers to speak up if they want a fly-in fly-out service from the region's airport.

David Wrigley told The Gympie Times the local mining community was "tired" of relying on the flight schedules from the two major airlines to cater for the needs of FIFO workers

Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan has been roasted by fellow politicians over the paltry amount of revenue the mining tax has gathered in its first six months.

Mr Swan revealed on Friday the Federal Government’s controversial tax had raised $126 million in its first six months. The figure is alarmingly low considering the government had budgeted for the tax to raise at least $2 billion in the 2012/13 financial year
